Curriculum
We are very proud of our vibrant curriculum which is not only broad and balanced but also encourages children to become life long learners. This was highly praised by OFSTED (2012) who agreed that our ‘core learning for life skills’ taught the children how to learn. This is essential as many of our children are likely to take up jobs that have not yet been invented. Themes for our curriculum can be found on this site. Many of the topics begin with a ‘real life’ quest or enquiry for the children to pursue. Units of learning end with a celebration, visit or event. Past such celebrations have been Bush Tucker Trials, A VE day party, a rainforest breakfast, a Roman feast- even a re-enactment of the Battle or Maldon! Our innovative teaching staff works hard to ensure that learning is inspiring.

Our school grounds
We have extensive outside spaces which are used for outdoor learning. This includes our own Nature area complete with a den, wood, secret pathways and a ‘hotel’ for insects! Our fields are used for a wide range of sports and outdoor and adventurous play. There are two hard surface playgrounds, one of which is specifically for Early Years children. The decking area provides shade in the summer and also has a small plot for growing fruit and vegetables.

Extra Curricular Clubs
The school encourages pupils to develop a wide range of interests and offers lunchtime and before/after school activities. These change with the seasons each term. Many are provided free of charge. Clubs include football, cricket, athletics, dodge ball, dance, art, ICT, drama and storytelling. Pupils in Year 5 who wish to prepare for the 11+ selection tests have the opportunity to do so.

Music
The school provides a music teacher in KS2 who teaches the reading of music and the recorder. There are also two peripatetic music teachers who teach individual lessons for piano, keyboard or guitar. A charge is made for these. The school choir joins other local schools for a Carol service each year at Chelmsford Cathedral.

Friends of the school
Our parents do not just leave their children at the school gate! They are our partners in education and we have fantastic parents who provide extra events such as discos, BBQs and numerous other fun events which also raise funds for the school.
